HAYLING ISLAND BIKE NIGHT 23 JULY

As seen in issue 441 of Back street Heroes

I’m sure its not just me, but any excuse to get a few miles under the belt is a good one the way this year has been going, and grabbing the opportunity on a dry Thursday I headed down to the regular Hayling island Bike night, as advertised on the BSH Facebook page.

Hayling island is a small island just off the south coast of England, a quintessential British seaside area and is accessible only by a bridge over the sea which is kind of cool in its own way.

Since the dreaded lurgy, this meet has had to move venue but seems quickly to have found a new home at Bobs café even if just for the last few weeks of this summer. It was busy, very, very, busy. Possibly due to the fact folk had to get out and it was one of the first opportunities, hopefully as other venues reopen the figures will balance out.

But the efficient team in the café served us promptly, people behaved well and there was a great atmosphere.

Add to this a rich and varied selection of bikes from 1913 veterans, to rats, chops, sports bikes and even a CX500 super moto which was my favourite of the evening.

Summer evenings, ice cream, sand dunes, bikes and laughter what more do you need for a summers evening. Oh yes I was home just before the rain, chasing the sunset over the south downs. Happy days. We may only get a couple of months this year of bike nights, but its great to find an event to enjoy such as this.

Avery busy evening, and some nice bikes of all types and ages
